# 16 - Roger Dennis (Captain)

Name: Roger Dennis
Graduated: 1961
Jersey No.: 16
Position: Running Back/Defensive Back
College(s): played for columbia; was MVP in 1965; honorable mention all-east; went to camp as a wide receiver with boston patriots in '66 (along with dave hayes mepham '58).  was top receiver for westchester bulls (new york giants 'triple A' level farm club) in '67, when a second ill-timed injury (first being at the patriots camp the year before) kicked me in the butt.  the giants had invited me to camp for '68 but uninvited me after the injury and after i grew my hair long.  i got ticked off by all the politics i saw in pro football and decided to let it go.  i had discovered rugby anyway, and i loved rugby even more than football.  i was playing for the 'old blue', the best rugby club on the east coast.  i played five or six years with them, and till this day my old blue experience remains one of the best things about my entire life.  a great group of guys and we still get together every year (at least) for a reunion.

Career/Doing: my wife (yvonne wakim dennis, a writer) and i live a somewhat simple and non-tradional life, both of us trying to make the world a better place.

i'm especially focused on transforming education, making schools into communities wherein everybody in the school, including especially students, has a voice that actually gets listened to; where everyone is treated with respect and dignity; and where curriculum is interesting, meaningful, and relevant to the lives of the students and to the world we live in.  i'm also an intercultural harmony activist.
